Believe In Me

Coach Clay Driscoll is hoping that a new job will turn things around for him: he's been hired to coach the boy's basketball team. But his dreams are crushed as soon as he arrives when he discovers that his job offer has been caught up in small town politics, and he's been assigned to coach the girls' team instead. In a town where everyone is struggling with the economic effects of a drought, that means almost no resources — and in early 1960s Oklahoma, plenty of people think girls shouldn't be playing competitive sports at all.

But he refuses to quit, and starts trying to figure out how to make the best of his time with the Lady Cyclones. When his coaching techniques don't seem to work, Clay's wife Jean offers him insight... and the girls start to win. As they prove the people who mock the girl's basketball team wrong, the community slowly starts to rally around them — especially as they strive to win the State Championship. Based on a true story, this is an inspiring film about courage, cooperation, and how much of a difference it makes when someone believes in you.

Description

"The Lady Cyclones are challenged at every step by a dismissive school board and the ever-present 1960s small-town attitude that girls just shouldn’t be playing competitive sports. Through it all, Clay and Jean fight the system, support the girls, work to heal a wound in their own marriage, and turn around what was a neglected stepchild program with a long history of losing. The community eventually rallies behind Clay and the girls as they strive to achieve the unbelievable — the State Championship." — Wikipedia
