Fabulous Educational Opportunities for Tweens & Teens

A Mighty Girl is excited to share news of these two great opportunities for tweens and teens! The first, the Girl Up Teen Advisors program is open to girls entering 7th-12th grades and focuses on global issues and international development; while the second, the new N.A.S.A. G.I.R.L.S. summer program, is open to girls entering 5th-8th grades and focuses on science and technology.

Girl Up Teen Advisors Program

Girl Up is currently accepting nominations for its next class of Teen Advisors and are looking from girls entering 7th-12th grades who are dedicated, organized, energized, motivated, driven, and have an eye on global issues.

Girl Up is a campaign of the United Nations Foundation that gives American girls the opportunity to channel their energy and compassion to raise awareness and funds for programs of the United Nations that help some of the world’s hardest-to-reach adolescent girls.

Girl Up Teen Advisors have the chance to serve as Girl Up spokespersons at events, meetings, and conferences throughout the United States and lead girl Up events, fundraisers and service-learning projects in their local communities

Here is how one current Teen Advisor describes her experience: "I’ve started a Girl Up club and been able to learn many invaluable leadership skills – how to speak up, how to advocate and how to be calm and collected in front of the media or a room full of adults. Not only do we Teen Advisors change the world, we also have fun while doing it! This year, we were able to visit the White House, meet with Congressional Representatives, Skype with girls at the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy in South Africa, and host our own Leadership Summit in Washington D.C. It was awesome to share what we have learned with other teenage girls."

The nomination process is open  through May 31st and Girl Up requests that girls be nominated by non-family members. Participants serve a year-long commitment beginning in September and must be U.S. residents. To learn more about the program, visit the Girl Up Teen Advisors website.
