Thank you to everyone who submitted photos of their Mighty Girls in costume to our 2020 Halloween Gallery! We were awed by the creativity and variety of the Mighty Girl costumes submitted to the gallery. As we've always said, Mighty Girls know that their costume possibilities are limited only by their imaginations and with costumes ranging from ones based on favorite superheroes to ones inspired by historic role models, these Mighty Girls clearly know no bounds!

After studying about how women were finally given the right to vote 100 years ago, these young women created their own Halloween costumes to honor these courageous women!
COVID-19 changed Halloween
6-year-old C decided since COVID-19 had changed her life, and changed how we could celebrate Halloween, she wanted to be COVID-19 this year. She told us exactly what she wanted for her costume and we made it to her specifications.
A third of the way there
My 13 daughter was hoping to get eight friends to dress as Ruth Bader Ginsburg. She got two. For 13 year olds, I was ecstatic with the three! They even had a magical body guard with my other daughter!
Honoring Katherine Johnson
Our own little Katherine honored national hero Katherine Johnson for Halloween this year! We love the book Counting on Katherine by Dow Phumiruk. Her NASA badge even had a working QR code for Ms. Johnson’s biography on the NASA website!
Virginia Apgar
Ella, age 8 dressed as Virginia Apgar. Ella admires Ms. Apgar for her tenacity and perseverance becoming the first woman to graduate from Columbia Medical School as well as for her hard work in helping newborn babies with the creation of the Apgar test.

My 12 year old is so passionate about this year’s election. She really wanted to encourage everyone to vote and have people voices be heard. Very proud of her work and just the idea she came up with all by herself! She worked hard on this costume.

My daughter (almost 11) spends all her free time learning about mythology. She wanted to be Artemis this year, and bestowed the honor of huntresses to her younger sisters.

Mulan
The latest version of Mulan showed girls that they can be stronger and better if they are determined to do so. It showed the importance of accepting who you are and never forgetting where you came from. Follow your dreams and passion.

Amelia Earhart and her Canary
After reading about Amelia Earhart and her trusty yellow plane, The Canary, our four year old daughter had her heart set on this Halloween costume for months. She did all the research, looking up photographs of the real Amelia to plan her costume herself. This girl dreams of soaring the skies!

My older daughter wanted to be Hermione, so she requested that her baby sister dress up as a Harry Potter character as well. We decided on Professor McGonagall!
Purple Air
Concerned about climate change and global warming especially with all the recent wild fires in California, which caused lots of smoke and bad air quality.

Emma (age 4.5) wanted to dress up as her favorite literary and musical cat, Magical Mister Mistoffelees from Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats by T.S. Eliot and the Broadway musical Cats.

Daughter told me she wanted to be Audrey Hepburn this year for Halloween. I found some black dresses, pearls, gloves etc and showed them to her. “No, no, Mommy. Not that Audrey Hepburn. I want to be Audrey Hepburn when she is helping the babies. You know- making sure the babies have enough food and stuff.” She then showed me a book she has about Audrey’s life, specifically her time with UNICEF.

We watched the mini-series Mrs. America this past summer, and more recently, Ms. Steinem's bio-pic, The Glorias. My 13 yo daughter was captivated by Ms. Steinem's leadership & boldness and wanted to pay her tribute this Halloween. Kiki's Delivery Service
My daughter has always liked keeping her hair short, but finding cool girl characters with short hair has not always been easy. Enter Studio Ghibli (which has a lot of short-haired cool girl characters) and Kiki's Delivery Service. My daughter fell in love with Kiki's independence as she sets off to start her own life as a witch, and learns to make the most of her best skills — flying and caring about others. She also designed and carved the accompanying pumpkin of Kiki's cat Jiji trying to hold onto the broom.

This Queen Elizabeth costume is made from drapes and a Christmas tree skirt. And coffee filters for the ruff. I helped — but she's the one who knows how to work the sewing machine.
