Thank you to everyone who submitted photos of their Mighty Girls in costume to our 2021 Halloween Gallery! We were awed by the creativity and variety of the Mighty Girl costumes submitted to the gallery. As we've always said, Mighty Girls know that their costume possibilities are limited only by their imaginations and with costumes ranging from ones based on favorite superheroes to ones inspired by historic role models, these Mighty Girls clearly know no bounds!

Look Out, Fairies, it's Tiffany Aching!
One of my eight year old's favorite books is The Wee Free Men, by Terry Pratchett. She loves the main character, Tiffany Aching, who wants to be a witch and must save her little brother (and the world!) from the Fairy Queen using a frying pan and a book of sheep disease remedies, with help from a toad and some little blue men!
The Three Fates
Sisters Laurel, Gilly, and Natalia are the Three Fates — Atropos, Lachesis, and Clotho. According to Greek mythology, they spun, measured, and ended the lives of humankind. Ready or not, here they come!
Inspired by Amanda Gorman
Amanda Gorman was such an inspiration at the inauguration — a true Mighty Girl! We read her new children's book and talked to our daughter about poetry. She was so excited to tell everyone at school all about Amanda and show off her homemade "caged bird" ring that completed her iconic outfit!

The next RBG
My daughter's fourth grade teacher called me on the first day of school. She told me that she had everyone introduce themselves, and to include something they liked that started with the same letter as their name did, like, "my name is Charlotte and I like... Candy," or "my name is Ben and I like basketball." My daughter Evie stood up in front of her class, in her new school and confidently said, "my name is Evie and I care about Equal Rights for everyone."
She had watched an RBG documentary and had really taken to her new hero, even spending her birthday money from her Grandparents to buy herself some RBG books. To say I am proud, is an understatement.

Sofia loves reading about the space, so she decided to be the solar system for Halloween.
Anne Boleyn
My daughter has been listening to the cast album of Six The Musical and we’ve been talking about how women and their contributions to history often get lost or forgotten. The wives of Henry VIII all made significant contributions and revisiting their stories lets us see HERstory and not just HIStory. Anne Boleyn is the most recognizable of the six wives, but my daughter is representing them all through her costume.
Ballet Dreams
My daughter has adored The Nutcracker since she was a toddler. She has been in ballet since she was 3 and dances her heart out weekly. This year, she’ll dance the part of Baker in The Nutcracker. Dressing up as Clara was the perfect choice for Halloween!
Mary Anning
Eliza wanted to be Mary Anning for Halloween this year. She was confused why nobody seemed to know who she was, and was thoroughly pleased to explain.
Elphaba
My daughter has really been into Wicked so this year she wanted to be Elphaba! We had green paint everywhere but luckily it all came off at the end of the night!
Statue of Liberty
Liliana has been asking to be the Statue of Liberty since last Halloween. My talented mother made her costume for her.

Maria from The Sound of Music
I was inspired by seeing another Mighty Girl dressed as Maria from The Sound of Music in last year’s A Mighty Girl Halloween Gallery. Julie Andrews is my favorite leading lady who has done many wonderful things for children throughout her career, and The Sound of Music is my favorite movie! I loved this particular outfit from the movie because it’s from the song “I Have Confidence” and my little Edie is one confident mighty girl!
JB Fletcher of Murder, She Wrote
I watched this show with my grandmother when she lived with my family for over a decade. It was one of our favorite things to do together. My daughter Maisy he now also discovered the show and asked to be Jessica Fletcher from Murder, She Wrote for Halloween. Watching it now as an adult, JB Fletcher is so many things that I didn’t notice as a child. She was a problem solver in all things, the show never centered around her and any romantic interests, and ultimately she solved crimes, published books, and did great works of philanthropy. She was an awesome role model to grow up with and I am so glad my daughter sees that too.

Amelia’s favourite character from any film is Jareth, the goblin king from Labyrinth. This year she is the Goblin Queen.
The Future is Fierce
Sienna (9) fell in love with the costumes in the new Cruella movie. She worked with her Nana to design and sew her jacket for her costume. Sienna started sewing with her Nana at age 7 when the pandemic shut school and sports down. She started a small business, called Ladybug Girl Creations (on Facebook) making and selling cute kid face masks and working with a local organization to donate face masks to kids and hosting food drives for their organization. I am very proud of my mighty girl!
Micaela from Coco
What happens when you identify with a character's cultural identity, personality, charisma but not his gender? You remember that you learned about multiverses and create your own story. Here's Micaela from Coco, a tenacious and determined girl who fights to become who she truly wants to be while navigating through her familia's culture and traditions on el Día de los Muertos journey, along her sidekick alebrije Dante. Francesca learned that if the story doesn't fit you, you can make it your own!

My daughter loves to play chess and wanted to “be” the queen for the game she enjoys so much! She wishes that more girls played chess and maybe by sharing her costume it may draw interest of other girls :)

Firefighter Twins
Inspired by real life firefighters visiting their class my twin girls were determined to be Firefighters for Halloween. Our family came down with Covid a couple of days before Halloween so they weren’t able to Trick or Treat but they loved wearing their costume.

Our 2.5 year old Mighty Girl has been enamored by construction trucks near her school, so it was no surprise she wanted to be a "bulldozer with crawler tracks" in her favorite color, blue. Of course, when she spotted sparkles at the craft store, we knew we had the finishing touches to make her costume!

I have recently introduced my 9 year old to the world of Harry Potter. We've been reading the books together and my daughter knew right off that she wanted to be Hermione for Halloween. I couldn't ask for a better mighty girl role model!

9 year old Adelaide plays year round competitive soccer and had the idea to turn her old uniform into a zombie costume. She found pictures online and helped her mom with both the costume and makeup.

Revolutionary War Soldier
My daughter has been learning about the Revolutionary War and has visited several of the battle sites which are local to us. She knew right away she wanted to dress up as a soldier from that time for Halloween.

The legend, the G.O.A.T. that is Serena Williams. We knew Kalea’s outfit when she watched her first match and said, "Momma, Serena looks like me!"
For Halloween Kalea knew she was a Queen and loved informing everyone she was the greatest athlete ever. Get that confidence early baby girl!
Margot and Richie Tenenbaum
My 13-year-old daughter wants to be a filmmaker, and Wes Anderson is one of her favorite writers/directors. So she chose to be Margot from The Royal Tenenbaums (and of course the dog was Margot’s brother, Richie). I think they nailed it!

My daughter has admired Frida Kahlo for a long time. Last November we saw her art at The Denver Art Museum and this year is dressed as Frida for Halloween.

Baby Z was Dr. Mae Jemison, the first black female in space! We love to talk about space, physics, and all things STEM. Can’t wait for her to defend her PhD and work at NASA someday!

This 8 year old asked to be Cleopatra. A home sewn costume (with gold fabric being fiddly to work with) came out perfectly and was accessorised with a sequin snake. She was so happy with it!

Dragon Queen
My little dragon queen. She has been working on this costume for weeks! She sewed both dragons after making a pattern all by herself, as well as making their eyes with UV resin and paint. Plus she made her necklace with oven baked clay.

Rosa Parks Inspired
Londyn Moore, 9, of Sicklerville, NJ, researched civil rights icon Rosa Parks for her Halloween costume.
Isabella “The Solar System”
Since age 4 Isabella has been asking to be the solar system for Halloween (not just the solar system but also every dwarf planets and every planets moons) and after a year of asking I finally gave in. You can’t of course buy that costume so I decided to make it for her. So after two weeks of working on it when I had a spare minute between her and her one year old brother, it was complete.
Isabella is the sun and the planets that surround her orbit her, she has every planet and dwarf planet in our solar system and their respective moons, confirmed and presumed (coloured pink to differentiate). We also created a light up Milky Way that surrounds her and the planets.
Thank you for taking the time to look at her costume! She loves everything science, and would tell you al of her science and space facts and the names of all of the planets. She is hoping to dress up as Chris Hadfield for next year, thank goodness that requires a lot less hot glue!
Sailor Moon
My daughter Sam, 8, has always a say on her costume even when she was little, this year she wanted to become Sailor Moon as she is fascinated with anything Manga and Anime. She is a good artist and draw her favorite characters really well. We support whatever it is she wants when she grow up, one day it maybe an astronaut who loves anime or on another day a doctor who bakes, whatever she wants to pursue we are behind her all the way!
The Queen of Space!
My ten year old daughter, Audrey, made up her own costume idea and designed it herself. She decided to be The Queen of Space where she visit all the planets and galaxies in the universe!
Willow as Amelia Earhart
Since Willow's first Halloween, we have used the holiday as an opportunity to learn about some mighty women. Each year, we have gotten books based on her Halloween costume and watch movies or clips about our inspiration for that year. This year, she is (as she calls her) "Amelia Earhart — Important Lady!"
