Last week, we just celebrated A Mighty Girl's three month anniversary and added our 7,000th supporter to our Facebook community! Welcome to everyone who has joined us since our last update on our one-month anniversary – it’s been an amazing ride and we're so happy to that you've joined us on this journey.
Every so often, we like to take a moment to introduce ourselves and let you know who are the "we" behind our Facebook and blog posts. My name is Carolyn Danckaert and my husband, Aaron Smith, and I founded A Mighty Girl after years of grappling with the challenge of finding girl empowering gifts for our four young nieces. We thought that others might be experiencing the same frustration that we did with the one-dimensional nature of many of the products marketed to girls so we launched the site as a service for others equally interested in supporting and celebrating girls.
Since launching in April, the response to the site has been incredible and we've been thrilled to hear such enthusiasm for our site offerings and Facebook content. We're working hard to expand the site as quickly as we can and are continually adding new books and movies to the site and seeking out compelling content to share via our social media communities. We also have several new exciting sections in the works (yes, music is still coming - it was much more complicated to add than we anticipated so we're sorry for the delay); several of which will be unveiled in the next few weeks.
A Mighty Girl is our labor of love and one that we hope becomes sustainable so that we can continue to grow the site in the future. Maintaining and expanding the site and social communities has become essentially a full-time job for me and Aaron contributes many nights and weekends to improving the site as well. Still it's a tremendous amount of work for a very small team so we appreciate your patience with us as we strive to make A Mighty Girl as useful a resource as possible for parents, teachers, and others dedicated to raising smart, confident, and courageous girls.
One way that you can help make the site sustainable in the long-term is by purchasing books and movies at Amazon.com through our site. Every product page has a 'Buy from Amazon' link and if you click that link before you make your Amazon purchases, we receive a small commission from the sales at no added cost to you. This is an easy and free way for you to help support A Mighty Girl.
We realize that some people choose not to buy items at Amazon or use the site to create their library or Netflix lists. We’re big fans of supporting local bookstores and frequent visitors to our local library as well. If you aren't an Amazon user and you do find value in the site, please consider making a donation to help support the site by clicking the donate button at the top of this page.
For those who are buying books or movies through us at Amazon, thank you! We truly appreciate it! That’s a tremendous help but it takes a lot of ten cent commissions before we can pay just our hosting bill not to mention the other site-related costs.
