Rachel Carson

Rachel Carson was an American marine biologist and author whose 1962 book Silent Spring about the detrimental effects of pesticides on the environment is widely credited with helping launch the US environmental movement. Carson also won the 1952 National Book Award for Nonfiction for her book The Sea Around Us.
