Claudia loves butterflies. Blue ones. Yellow ones. Purple ones with dots. And since she can't take them home, she paints them in all their beautiful colors. But when winter comes, there are no more butterflies to paint. When Claudia finds a little moth in a closet, eating one of her family's sweaters, she realizes it looks like a butterfly, but it's much less colorful. She even paints its wings, even though she knows that's not the right thing to do.
But moths are different than butterflies, and when the moth escapes, following the light from a streetlight, Claudia realizes that it's beautiful in its own way... and so are the seasons around her. Suddenly, Claudia sees winter in a whole new light.
This charming story about a young nature- and art-loving girl celebrates the joys to be found in the changing of the seasons, and recognizes how you can find something special just about everywhere — if you look at it the right way.
