Natalie Merchant is the former lead singer from the band 10,000 Maniacs. She left the group in 1993 to start a solo career. Wonder is from Tigerlily, her first solo album, and proved to be a very successful single, reaching number 20 on the Billboard Hot 100. The album went on to sell over 5 million copies and remains her most successful to date.
In Wonder, Merchant celebrates the knowledge that everyone is born gifted and that life itself is a miracle. It is a reminder that everyone should have confidence that they are special and can make a difference in the world.
Notes for Parents: The lyrics of this single are suitable for all ages, and many of the concepts will be understandable to the youngest girls. The video features girls and women of many ages singing and dancing with Merchant. It is deliberately inclusive of women old and young, of all races, and of the differently abled, including a little girl with Down's syndrome.
