Minette's Feast: The Delicious Story of Julia Child and Her Cat

When Julia Child and her husband arrive in Paris, a little tortoiseshell cat watches as they explore their new home. Since Julia believes that "A house without a cat is like life without sunshine" it's not long before Minette is enjoying the sun (and the occasional mouse) on their living room rug. As Julia works hard in the kitchen, mastering the art of French cooking, Minette turns up her nose at the fine foods. It's only when Julia offers a taste of 3-day marinated roast that Minette decides to enjoy the feast.

This charming and lively story, told from Minette's point of view, is complete with an author's note, a bibliography, and actual quotations from Julia Child, giving kids a delightful introduction to the famous chef.

Description

"Even if readers have never heard of Julia Child or the delightful interlude she and her husband Paul shared in Paris in the late 1940s, the joy of an enthusiastic food-lover in the kitchen is palpable: 'She floured and flipped, pitted and plucked, rinsed and roasted, sizzled and skimmed.' Bates’ inventively composed kitchen- and marketscapes in warm watercolors and pencil capture this joy as well, as readers see the very-tall, very-cheerful cook in action.... A fine recipe for pleasure: Julia Child, the culinary arts, Paris and a lucky cat." — Kirkus Reviews
