Sarah Breelove was born to formerly enslaved parents, and grew up as a sharecropper, but she had big dreams. She saw a gap in the market: there were no beauty products designed for Black women. So she renamed herself Madam C. J. Walker and created her own business — and became the first documented self-made female millionaire in the U.S.! Walker was also a devoted philanthropist and civil rights advocate.

This doll from the Inspiring Women Barbies line is sculpted to her likeness and comes wearing a full-length skirt and a floral blouse with ruffled details similar to ones she wore in portraits. She comes with an accessory designed to look like Madam C.J. Walker’s Wonderful Hair Grower, her signature product.
